The music group NEMUER, in collaboration with Egyptologists and artist Klara Sedlo, is working on an Ancient Egyptian album and film. Become a part of this unique project and help us bring the Book of the Dead back to life!
Author: NEMUER & Klara Sedlo
To give you a clear idea of what it's all about, we've published a part of the film (one track) as a video:
After years of collaboration with Egyptologists, we have composed an ancient Egyptian-themed album. However, we want to immerse you further. That's why we've teamed up with artist Klára Sedlo and film experts. We aim to connect both mediums and create an art music film full of a mysterious atmosphere. Both the album and the film draw from the texts of the Book of the Dead and will take you on a fantastic journey through the Egyptian underworld.
Alongside playing historical instruments, we will also introduce singing in ancient Egyptian with newly reconstructed pronunciation. You will have a unique opportunity to be the first in the world to hear how this ancient language actually sounded. We drew from texts more than three thousand years old, and Michael (founder of NEMUER) even traveled to Egypt to acquire musical instruments and find inspiration. There, he befriended Copts, direct descendants of ancient Egyptians, and through them, he discovered a pharaonic tune that he incorporated into the album.
With your help, we will create a music album and a short film that will accompany several songs from the album. The film will combine animated visuals by Klára Sedlo with live-action segments and will have a duration of 15-20 minutes. If we substantially surpass the funding goal, we'll have the opportunity to expand this project into a full-length movie.
The album will take you on a journey through the Egyptian underworld, full of traps and trials. The entire journey begins with death and culminates in achieving immortality, as the deceased becomes one of the gods.
In addition to the music album itself and printed items featuring Klára Sedlo's artwork, we have a variety of unique rewards for you:
Bookmark Made from Papyrus
Handcrafted, inspired by the Book of the Dead, with a choice of two spells. These spells allow the deceased a temporary transformation into a powerful deity, greatly facilitating their journey through the underworld.
Anubis, the god of embalming and guide to the underworld, also plays a crucial role in weighing the heart of the deceased, one of the most perilous tests.
Sacrificial Pot to Repell the Serpent Apophis
Apophis embodies evil, chaos, and darkness. The ritual of breaking the red pots is over 5,000 years old and is aimed at combating this dark entity.
Rare: Klára Sedlo's Sketches
These sketches were created during the making of the film and album cover. Only 9 pieces available!
Sun God Ra Zipper Hoodie
Ra represents the sun and order. Every night, he embarks into the underworld to battle Apophis. When Ra triumphs, the reborn sun rises again. When he fails, the world falls into darkness.
Papyrus Used in the Film (Prop)
The papyrus contains a spell for transforming into a sacred falcon. Part of the text appears in the album.
Immortality - Your Character in the Film as a Painted Figure
The primary goal of the Egyptians was to attain immortality. Many achieved it indirectly by being immortalized through art. Seize this opportunity and become immortal yourself!
Original Artwork - Oil Painting
Klára Sedlo perfectly captured the ancient Egyptian underworld in this painting. Acquire this piece of art for your collection!
After more than 4 years, the album is nearly completed, but the film will require a lot more work and funds. With your help, we will be able to dedicate ourselves to it fully.
The album will be released on November 4th, and on the same day, we will have a release party concert in Prague, where we will perform several tracks from the new album.
The short film is expected to be released within a year from the end of this campaign.
Many people are involved in the project, but the main team consists of:
