Greetings to all those who are interested in Milokraj's new album!!! We are working on our second CD, which we would like to release in the spring of 2017, but need financial support for the recording, editing, mixing and pressing of the CD. Thank you for your help!

Marta Topferova & Milokraj

Musicians on the new recording will be:

Since the release of Milokraj's first album in 2013, the band has grown and developed a lot. We've performed many concerts together and traveled all across Europe. I've written another collection of songs which are inspired mainly by Czech and Moravian folk music, but also bring in other influences, such as Latin American rhythms and styles, and many experiences on the New York music scene.

I think this new music is extremely unique, and all the musicians in the band bring exceptional artistry to the project.

I feel a calling to document it on a high quality recording. We plan to record at Sono studios, where I've recorded three of my albums (2016 Reencuentros, 2013 Milokraj, and 2009 Trova). I've picked my favorite sound ingeneer, Michal Vaniš, (who recorded my CDs Reencuentros and Trova), who always achieves top quality sound, and is a great pleasure to work with.

I've released eight CDs on various labels, but want to self-produce this album, in order to have the production in my hands.  That's why I decided to ask for your support.

Biography

Marta Topferova is one of the most dynamic singers and songwriters of her generation. In her youth, she spent eight years singing classical and folk music in choirs in the Czech Republic and the United States. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1987, she learned fluent Spanish and became of the most unique singers and composer of Latin American music. The London Times described Marta as “one of the most graceful interpreters of Latin American folk music”. Marta’s deep voice, lyrical songs and unique accompaniment on the four‐string cuatro and the guitar have captivated listeners around the world. She established herself on the music scene in New York, worked with some of the most prominent musicians from the Latin, jazz and classical music circles, and this experience is reflected in the distinct stylistic mix of her own work. In 2012 Marta returned to the Czech Republic and began writing songs in her native language inspired by Moravian folklore and Slavic music for her new ensemble Milokraj. Marta has also set to music poems by Věra Provazníková, Jan Zahradníček and others. 

Marta is internationally recognized as one of the leading proponents of world music; she has toured Europe, the USA, Canada, Argentina and Thailand and appears at major venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Blue Note in New York and the Bardentreffen Festival in Nuremberg. 

To date, Marta has released eight albums of primarily original music: Reencuentros (2016, Senderos), Milokraj (2013, Animal Music), The Other Shore (2011, World Village), Trova (2009, World Village), Flor Nocturna (2006, World Village), La Marea (2005, World Village), Sueño Verde (2003, Circular Moves) and Homage to Homeland (2002, self-produced).

    A lesson with Marta

    Private songwriting lesson, or 90 minutes with Marta, where she will show you her approach to songwriting. Or, would you like to learn a song from her repertoire? Or a Latin rhythm on guitar, cuatro, hand percussion? Should it be a voice lesson? It's up to you. Location: Prague, Czech Republic. A Skype lesson can also be arranged.

    A solo concert

    A solo concert by Marta at the location of your choice (at your home, another location/ occasion?). Marta will perfom a selection of songs from her Latin American repertoire, accompanying herself on guitar and cuatro. Concert length: 45-50 minutes. For a smaller audience, the concert can be acoustic, for more than 40 people, we will need to arrange for sound equipment. For concerts more than 50 kilometres outside Prague, please add on travel expenses. We can also arrange the concert abroad for an additional fee.
