Preview of Martian habitat S.H.E.E. in the Czech Republic

We would like to introduce and demonstrate the Self-deployable Habitat for Extreme Environments to public in the Czech Republic. This unique prototype will be on exhibition for two months at the Science and Technology Center, Ostrava and NATO Days.

How it started

It all started when two friends Jan and Ondrej met during university studies at The Czech Technical University in Prague. Ondrej became space architect and is currently working for Florida Institute of Technology and as a scientist at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. Jan is participating on architectural revival of contemporary city of Ostrava. He supported projects awarded with National Award Building price of year 2015, "Důl Hlubina” and “Bolt Tower”.

What is our target?

The funds that we will raise will be used for transport and exhibition of planetary base simulator S.H.E.E. in the Czech Republic.
The exhibition takes place from 18th July till 18th September 2016. During this period you will have the unique chance to see the habitat (simulator space base system e.g. for Mars) at the Science and Technology Center, Ostrava and at the Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport as a part of the NATO Days event.

We want to popularize opportunities and possibilities that is contemporary science offering in the area of space and life beyond the planet Earth as well as human space flight science applications on Earth.

The S.H.E.E. project is based on long-term research in architecture, motivated by efforts to stimulate development in architecture and point out integration of current technologies for higher benefit of its users. The research shows that there are common design drivers that address both extreme environments on earth and in space. Initial design solutions for rather harsh extreme environment of space suggest that they can be effectively utilised in extreme environment conditions on the planet Earth for benefit of terrestrial architecture development. This approach, including satisfaction of habitat needs in outer space and terrestrial, life-critical extreme environment conditions, allows efficiency gains and economies of scope and scale because the same investment has dual purposes and related added-values.

Space architecture can significantly contribute in areas such as: innovative technical infrastructure integration in the ergonomic habitat structure, autonomous ecological living, advanced materials and technologies application and robotics integrated in architecture pursuing sustainable development. The S.H.E.E. research project explores and applies these areas of concerns and related solutions during the design of the habitat testbed.

The S.H.E.E. project develops a key architecture research idea initiated by architect Dr. Ondrej Doule (Space Innovations, s.r.o.) at the International Space University in Strasbourg (France) in 2011.

We are group of enthusiasts who want to bring the space science closer to the public and popularize possibilities of human presence in the extreme environments (universe, Moon, Mars, natural or man-caused disasters on Earth).

Why are we doing this?

We want to bring human space flight science closer to the public. We want to let people understand possibilities and urgency about humankind living beyond the planet Earth, the challenges and constraints of human space flight but also the relation and reference to our daily lives...

This activity is just the first step to potential events, projects and activities we plan to do in the Czech Republic in area of human space flight, space tourism, and space exploration in general!
