Hello there!! This is me asking you to support my Antarctica project. I am one of seven volunteers. And our mission is to travel far and wide across the snow cleaning up the substantial pollution which has swept in from the ocean. As well as cleaning and clearing the detritus I am going to fully document the journey and turn it into an art installation. The resulting exhibition in Prague will highlight many aspects of this expedition, but most of all convey the disappearing beauties of the continental glacier ice. The specific aim of the Czech Antarctic Research Programme is to clean up the pollution from the ocean around the Antarctic island of Nelson. With more financial support we would transfer all of that polluted material back to where it can be safely be destroyed. Pictures, video mapping, feelings, the waste- all of those will serve me as material and inspiration for my art installation, which I will use to create exhibitions displayed in selected cities in the Czech Republic (Prague, Olomouc, Ostrava); with the primary goal being the provision of an art installation and display at the 42nd meeting of The Antarctic Treaty, taking place in Prague in 2019. This work will serve to both educate and engage. The Antarctic is a fabulous but extremely distant place for most of us. It’s hard to realise how fundamentally important it is for the balance and thriving of the planet’s ecosystem. This art project will show how crucial the problem of ocean pollution is and how badly it accelerates the melting of the great ice cap. And illustrating this journey in artistic form will open a scientific door full of statistics and facts for all to see. It will help the public understand the issues of both-ocean pollution and melting glaciers, and to awaken activity and interest in the issue. A message about how climate change is changing our world conveyed in artistic form rather than simply dry facts. People are moved by art, and hopefully not only emotionally… Why am I using Hithit? This unique opportunity to get into the seven volunteer team is, of course, an almost insurmountable obstacle for me. As a volunteer, I must pay for all the expenses and necessary equipment for the trip myself. And the total amount per person is around 150,000 CZK. But I believe it’s possible to have this dream possibility come true if lots of people help just a little bit. You will all be supporting a member of the cleaning program, and draw the attention of the general public through art to what is happening to our planet. For many of us, art is more inspiring and evoking than scientific posts, and I believe that this form will appeal to more people. The art project illustrates the vanishing beauty of continental ice that is having a tremendous impact on sea level rise and the whole cycle of our planet. I once read this: "In our way of life, with every decision we make, we should always bear in mind the seventh generation of children who come after us. When we walk on Mother Earth, we always place our feet carefully because we know the faces of future generations look up at us from the ground. Oren Lyons So, that's the main reason why I am doing this. I am convinced that art is the key to unlock the door of science for everyone and that this will help us to take more and more climate action. Art and science are two equal and complementary parts of a full understanding of what it means to be human. My name is Veronika ‘Gib’ Podlasova – and I am human. You know how it works! You can contribute by buying rewards.. every little bit helps and I hugely appreciate it. For overseas shipping you can just buy just small stuff bellow 500CZK (19 EUR) use google translator, me or expect a surprise afterwards when you order something:) Thanks to all of you, Veronika
