Swear on our own!

For more than a quarter century, after the establishing of FSV UK, graduate students could not swear on the faculty´s own mace and the insignia had to be borrowed by the Faculty of Arts. Let’s make the dream of our own insignia a reality!

How it all started? 

Every year thousands of students of FSV UK take both graduation and matriculation oaths. Do they know whose mace they swear on? Although we had been swearing and vowing on borrowed mace before, there is no need for our successors to continue after 25 years of existence of the faculty. And so this is how it all started...For the project announcement collection, we gained support from current as well as former deans of FSV UK - incumbent Dean Jakub Koncelik and former Deans Prof. Lubomir Mlcoch and Prof. Jan Amos Visek. We approched Mr. Otmar Oliva - the academic sculptor who was alredy contacted by the former Dean, Prof. Miloslav Petrusek, twenty years ago.

This funding is one of the last steps to fulfill a twenty year old dream!    

                          

What is our primary aim?

As alumni and supporters of the Faculty of Social Sciences, we want to strengthen the identity of our faculty; we want to give our faculty its  insignia. We don´t want to wait another quarter of a century.

Details

"Swear on our own!" - Is a motto of funding for alumni, supporters, students and staff of Faculty of Social Sciences. The funding is now the only way to successfully finish the project  of making insignia, which was announced than twenty years ago Dean Prof. Miloslav Petrusek. His dream was the insignia to be made by  academic sculptor Otmar Oliva. His work is known not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. He also made insignia of JAMU in Brno. His artworks can be seen in Vatican. Conceptual design of insignia of Faculty of Social Sciences has already been made Society in the palm of your hand (Globe resting on the tips of a human hand. Each Finger of a human hand symbolizes one of the fields of study on the faculty, the whole hand that due to sectoral collaboration faculty provides students look at human society as palm). Mace ideological intention contest mace ideological intention was announced in the autumn of 2014. The best idea design author is professor Martin Potucek. Our donators will be rewarded by (according to the size of the gift) souvenirs FSV UK or parts of insignia.

Why do we do it?

We want to strengthen the identity of Faculty of Social Sciences; our alma mater deserves its own insignia!

    Ticket to the ceremony in the traditional spaces of Karolinum, where the transfer takes place with the participation insignia. Present will be academic sculptor Otmar Oliva, leadership of Charles University, leadership of Faculty of Social Sciences and the initiators of the funding (i.e., Leaders of the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism and the Institute of Economic Studies). A Part of the ceremony wil also be a guided tour of the historical part of Karolinum, national cultural monuments, including the non-public and usually inaccessible places.

    The Fragments of Birth

    The cast of detail of insignia that will be a reminder for donors that they helped to form a mace, respectively to strengthen the identity of Faculty of Social Sciences. It will be an original handwork of the academic sculptor Otmar Oliva. We used the same technology that was used in the production of a mace.
