How it all began

CLASP'PIN brand owes its origins to a claim for refund of the money paid for a backpack manufactured by an unnamed producer, namely its broken strap set which acted as if it was made of leather. I did not want to spend the money I received back on a product made of synthetic materials, and so an idea to have a backpack of my own design produced arouse. As time passed, I gradually could not resist the temptation and in a short time our bedroom welcomed an old Minerva industrial sewing machine. However, having my own machine enabled me to try out both the possibilities and limits of the designs for myself, and so the time needed for a feedback became considerably shorter. Soon I realized that one machine was not enough and I needed another one…

What is my aim?

With time, I managed to set up my own small workshop, very modest for the time being, where I employ myself. I would like to use the raised funds to supplement the workshop equipment (to purchase my own hydraulic cutting press, more modern sewing machine with a thread cutting device etc.) as well as to invest part of them in material purchase. My aim is thus to increase the efficiency of my production significantly and to focus on development of other CLASP'PIN brand products.

The CLASP'PIN Bandit backpack, whose construction and design are on the borderland of the classic concept, is particularly designated to be used in the city, where the safety of the contents is especially important. Thanks to the natural materials used (vegetable tanned leather and densely woven duck canvas) it is very resistant and so suitable for shorter trips out of the city, too. The backpack design returns to classic top-fed backpacks which are these days considered rather a retro style; however, the Bandit model is equipped with several elements which make it a stylish companion in any environment. On your way to work, you will not need to be ashamed of the combination of canvas and leather and if you enjoy going out on the town on your Vespa, Café racer or Singlespeed, you will not certainly regret! The seams connecting the core leather parts (the leather bottom reinforcement and the back part of the strap anchoring) are embedded in the leather in a way which increases their abrasion resistance. Who am I?

I already worked with leather as a little scout; I processed it with an old adjusted screwdriver. After many years, my love for this material fused with other interests of mine and everything led to the CLASP'PIN project – a brand under which I want to produce other luggage and accessories models designated not only for the city subculture environment. I am a big fan of road, mountain and city cycling and I consider myself a bit of a photographer and graphic designer. I graduated from technical graphic school in Prague – majored in applied photography, I absolutely love the industrial-product design of the 1950s-70s as well as old mechanical devices and I am a “bicycle and sewing machine” mechanic. I pursued graphic design in the sport and advertisement areas but as time passed, I started to miss the real, physical contact with material. The iMac is a matter of the heart for me; however, I could not resist the temptation to become the ordering party and realizer in one person and I could not miss the opportunity to link together my own ideas and clients’ requirements. Fulfilling this ambition forms my highest motivation for the future…
